Building and Improving Your Art Business

How do you turn your passion for art into a meaningful and productive business? How can you make your current art business more successful? Whether you’re beginning building an art business or you need some tips on how to make your current art business run more smoothly and profitably, this workshop is for you. Throughout the day, you will learn how to present yourself to galleries improve your portfolio, write or improve your CV/resumé, interact with and sell to clients, price your work, market yourself effectively, and much more. Your teachers will be four professional artists who have spent years honing their craft and teaching themselves how to thrive in the art world.

This class will be taught in three sections. Students can choose to attend one two-hour session for $30 or attend all three sessions for $80 . All three classes will be taught on Saturday, January 21st .

Session One: Image Management and Galleries

Taught by DAC co-founder and artist Jamie Kyle

January 21st 11am-1pm

In this session, you will learn how to create high-quality digital images and how to manage and print your files to improve workflow. Jamie will walk you through the steps from finished art piece to portfolio-ready digital image. Finally, you will learn about building a successful portfolio to present yourself to galleries.

**Materials Needed: Bring your laptop if you’ve got one. You’ll want to bring a thumb drive and one original piece to photograph or scan.

Session Two: Marketing & Pricing

Taught be DAC co-founder Desarae Lee

January 21st 1:30pm to 3:30pm

Public Price: $30

DAC Member Price: $10

In this second session, you will learn how to market and sell your work. Desarae will present some strategies for pricing and help you improve the way you present your art to clients. Finally, you will learn the importance of marketing and the many avenues through which you can market yourself cheaply and effectively.

Session Three: Festival Presence

Teachers: Jake Buntjer and Chris Madsen

January 21st 4:00pm-6:00pm

Public Price: $30

DAC Member Price: $10

In the third and final session, you will learn about participating in arts fairs and festivals. Chris and Jake will teach you about the importance of a good booth shot, how and when to apply to shows, and how to prepare yourself and your booth for success.
