DAC January 2019 Artist Spotlight - Larry S. Cohen

Downtown Artist Collective member Larry S. Cohen works as a Design Director, Environmental Graphic Artist and Fine Artist, in a variety of media including painting, photography, and mixed media. He is originally from Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York, and currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Larry makes work by layering textures, stencils, found objects and other flotsam on a variety of different materials. He considers his work as “abstractions that are reflected landscapes of both a physical and metaphysical nature.”

He also considers his work as “a response to my surroundings, my personal history, beliefs & choices. The work acts as a sort of biography. It is an embodiment of the act that is now represented before you.”

Larry believes that his art, like any body of art, is an evolving process. “The work evolves as I do. I don't attempt to sway your experience of it. It speaks to you as only you experience it. I don't want to tell people what to think. I want to present an object and let them figure it out.”
