We are now accepting applications for membership with the Downtown Artist Collective!

**Please note that we will be accepting two types of applications this year: artist members and community outreach members.  Artist members exhibit with the gallery, teach workshops, and volunteer to staff the gallery. Artist Application Process

Our membership year begins October 1st of each year. Artists of all media are welcomed and encouraged to apply. There is no application fee.

After the August 25th deadline, an independent jury reviews applicant portfolios and selects the final round of applicants. Our Membership Committee then interviews and selects members. All applicants will be notified by September 5th as to their status.

Round one selection is dependent upon strength of the applicant’s work and resumé. Final membership selection is based on interview, references, and the needs of the gallery. The Membership Committee does not offer explanations as to its decisions regarding acceptance of members. Critiques of artists who are not accepted will not be given. Please keep in mind, if you are not accepted, we may have simply had too many applicants in a given medium.

Community Outreach Members - New this year!

DAC will be accepting applications to fill 3-4 community outreach membership positions. Community involvement is important to the DAC. It is our goal to continue growing and reaching out to make art accessible to all members of our community regardless of gender, race, age, socio-economic status, or sexual preference. We are looking for members to specifically support the growth and development of our community outreach program through monthly volunteering and program development.

Outreach members will volunteer alongside our outreach developer and board member Celine Downen to create programs and workshops that bring art to the local community. They may also assist in writing grants, teaching workshops, and/or managing day-to-day program operations.

After the August 25th deadline, applicants will be selected based upon the strength of their resume, references, and interview. All applicants will be notified by September 5th as to their status.

About Us

Thank you for interest in joining us at Downtown Artists Collective (DAC)!  We are a gallery, studio, community outreach, and learning space located in Downtown Salt Lake City.  We strive to create a community where artists can reflect, collaborate, and share in a cooperative environment.

Each monthly opening is marketed to its full potential, and our community outreach programs showcase our gallery and our art to the local community. We strive to attract high-level patrons with art that is fresh, contemporary, and of exceptional quality.

Membership

Our membership consists of 15-20 members.  We keep a balance of community outreach specialists and artists that work in all mediums, two- and three-dimensional.  Most of our artists boast impressive resumes.  Some are instructors and provide workshops, some are new talents with bright futures, and many show in nationwide shows, art fairs, and in commercial galleries on a local and national level.

Member Responsibilities

Upon joining DAC, each member is required to make a $40 work deposit as well as a $10 key deposit, both due with the initial contract and refundable upon contract termination. Upon contract receipt and payment, artists will be issued a key and key code for the gallery.

Each year of membership, members are required to either:

  • Pay monthly dues of $40, payable in advance and due at the first of each month.  Dues are not refundable.

OR

  • Volunteer an assigned shift once a month to staff or clean the gallery, teach a workshop, or support our community outreach.

We expect our members to be professional and polite while on duty, as well as knowledgeable about the mission of the DAC and the work that is displayed throughout the gallery.

New members are required to attend a training meeting to be held in the beginning of October yearly.  All members are required to attend quarterly membership meetings. Members are encouraged to serve on at least one committee during their tenure.

Artist members are required to curate (alone, with a partner, or with a group) at least one show per year featuring their own work.  Member-curators, with help from board members and senior members, will be required to run all aspects of marketing, hospitality, and hanging their shows. Each artist member has the opportunity to apply for a one-month-long solo, duo, or trio show. We host three shows each year that feature all artist members.  We also participate in local arts festivals.

Members are encouraged to teach and attend workshops and lessons in the gallery space.  All marketing, planning, supplies, and clean-up for said workshops are the responsibility of the workshop coordinator.

OVERVIEW OF MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. For entire year of membership either:
    • Pay $40 fee monthly OR
    • Volunteer at least once per month for a gallery shift, workshop, or community outreach.
  2. Attend quarterly meetings.
  3. Stay up to date on current exhibits and artists in the gallery.

OVERVIEW OF ARTIST-MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate in group gallery shows with the possibility of curating solo, duo, or trio shows.
  2. Continue to be a working artist – create and show new work on a regular basis.
